This charming vintage handmade Persian tribal rug is a wonderful example of traditional village weaving, featuring a striking all-over checked design that is both distinctive and timeless. Unlike formal city rugs, its simple geometric composition and rich natural colours create a warm, relaxed character that suits both traditional and contemporary interiors.

Measuring 175 × 105 cm (approximately 5 ft 9 in × 3 ft 5 in), this versatile rug is an ideal size for a living room, bedroom, study, entrance hall or reading corner.

The rug displays a beautifully balanced palette of rich madder red, deep forest green, warm gold, soft ivory, earthy brown and charcoal, arranged in a lively patchwork of hand-knotted squares. The subtle variations in colour and weave reflect its handmade tribal origins, giving every section its own unique character.

Hand knotted from very fine lamb’s wool on a wool foundation, the rug has a wonderfully soft handle while remaining exceptionally durable. It shows slight, even age-related wear consistent with its age, yet retains a good pile throughout and remains perfectly suitable for everyday domestic use.
