Old Handmade Persian Hamedan Runner – 277 × 110 cm (9 ft 1 in × 3 ft 7 in)
Old Handmade Persian Hamedan Runner – 277 × 110 cm (9 ft 1 in × 3 ft 7 in)
Traditional Tribal Medallion Design • Beautiful Abrash • Fine Lamb’s Wool • Dated 1976
This striking old handmade Persian Hamedan runner is a highly characterful example of regional village weaving, combining bold geometric medallions, tribal motifs and beautifully matured colours.
Measuring 277 × 110 cm (approximately 9 ft 1 in × 3 ft 7 in), the runner features a powerful traditional medallion composition set against a deep indigo field, with rich madder red sections and smaller symbolic motifs woven throughout. The design has a strong architectural quality, giving the runner excellent presence in a hallway, entrance, landing or long interior space.
The runner is dated within the field 1349 (1976), providing a clear record of its age and adding further interest to the piece.
Its colour palette is particularly attractive, combining deep indigo blue, madder red, soft ivory, muted sky blue, warm terracotta and subtle olive accents. A visible change of colour, known as abrash, runs through parts of the field. This natural tonal variation is a desirable feature of handmade rugs and adds depth, individuality and authentic character.
Hand knotted from very fine lamb’s wool on a cotton foundation, the runner has a soft yet durable pile and is suitable for heavy domestic use. It has been professionally hand washed and is ready for immediate use.
