This impressive vintage handmade Persian Kashmar carpet is a finely detailed city weaving dating from approximately 50–60 years ago. It features a large classical central medallion surrounded by elaborate floral scrolls, flowering vases and carefully drawn birds.
Measuring 385 × 297 cm (approximately 12 ft 8 in × 9 ft 9 in), this substantial room-size carpet is ideal for a large living room, dining room, drawing room, reception room or formal sitting area.
The carpet has a richly decorated field combining deep navy, burgundy red and soft beige, centred by an ornate medallion in pale blue, ivory, red and warm gold. Symmetrically arranged vases, flowering branches and birds create an elegant and highly decorative composition.
A broad border in soft blue and warm beige is filled with large floral palmettes and vase motifs. Smaller guard borders provide additional definition and introduce accents of turquoise, olive green, terracotta, ivory, pale pink and golden yellow.
Hand knotted from very fine lamb’s wool on a strong cotton foundation, the carpet has a detailed weave and durable construction. It remains in good vintage condition with slight uneven wear and a low pile, consistent with its age and giving it an attractive, gently aged character.
The carpet has been professionally hand washed and is clean, fresh and ready for immediate use or display.
