This attractive antique handmade Persian Hamedan rug is a characterful regional weaving dating from approximately 60–70 years ago. It features a traditional elongated central medallion surrounded by stylised floral and geometric motifs, creating a lively and well-balanced composition.

Measuring 205 × 103 cm (approximately 6 ft 9 in × 3 ft 5 in), the rug is a versatile size for a hallway, entrance hall, living room, bedroom, study or beside a dining table.

The rug has a warm rose-red and coral field, enriched with a beautifully varied palette of deep navy, burgundy, soft pink, ivory, muted green, warm brown and touches of golden orange. The stepped medallion is filled with stylised flowers and tribal forms, while the surrounding field contains flowering plants, geometric ornaments and small decorative motifs.

A broad rose-pink border decorated with repeated floral forms frames the rug, with narrow dark navy guard borders adding definition and contrast. The naturally mellowed colours give the rug considerable warmth and an authentic lived-with appearance.

Hand knotted from fine lamb’s wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug has a low, even vintage pile consistent with its age. It remains in good condition and is suitable for regular household use.
