This exceptional antique handmade Persian Bidjar rug features a richly detailed traditional floral design, with rows of stylised flowers, palmettes and geometric motifs arranged across a warm red field.

The rug has a beautifully aged colour palette including faded red, terracotta, rust, burgundy, deep navy blue, indigo, muted turquoise, pale blue, olive green, mustard yellow, ivory, cream, soft pink, brown and grey. The naturally mellow colours and extensive age-related patina give the rug remarkable character and authenticity.

Hand knotted from very fine lamb’s wool coloured with natural dyes, the rug has the strong and durable construction traditionally associated with Bidjar weaving. At approximately 140–150 years old, it shows considerable even wear and a very low pile consistent with its age, adding to its antique appeal.

The rug has been professionally hand washed and is ready for use or display. Due to its age and low pile, it is best suited to light domestic use or as a decorative feature in a drawing room, library, bedroom or country-house interior.
