This exceptional handmade Persian Kashan carpet is a finely woven city piece dating from approximately 70–80 years ago. It features a highly decorative classical garden design filled with flowering plants, scrolling vines, birds and animals, arranged in a beautifully balanced and symmetrical composition.
Measuring 385 × 250 cm (approximately 12 ft 8 in × 8 ft 2 in), this elegant room-size carpet is ideal for a large living room, dining room, reception room, drawing room, library or formal sitting area.
The carpet has a beautiful pale green and soft sage field, densely decorated with flowering branches, palmettes and delicate botanical motifs. Numerous finely drawn birds and animals are woven throughout the field, adding charm, movement and considerable decorative interest.
The design is enriched with shades of powder blue, navy blue, ivory, warm beige, soft gold, muted brown, burgundy and touches of pale pink. A broad pale-green floral border, decorated with large stylised blossoms and scrolling dark-blue vines, frames the carpet beautifully. Fine guard borders in ivory, blue and warm gold add further definition.
Hand knotted from fine wool, the carpet has a detailed city weave and durable construction. Its unusual pale colouring, animal decoration and graceful garden design make it a particularly attractive furnishing carpet with strong antique character.
The carpet remains in excellent antique condition, showing only very slight wear and retaining a good pile. It has been professionally hand washed and is clean, fresh and ready for immediate use or display.
