This exceptional signed Persian Mashad carpet is a finely woven city piece dating from approximately 60–70 years ago. Known as a Paradise Garden carpet, it features an elaborate pictorial design filled with flowering trees, ornamental plants, birds and animals.
Measuring 290 × 200 cm (approximately 9 ft 6 in × 6 ft 7 in), this versatile room-size carpet is ideal for a living room, dining room, reception room, study, library, bedroom or formal sitting area.
The carpet has a rich wine-red and crimson field, densely decorated with formal garden imagery. Decorative trees, flowering vases, fountains, birds and animals are arranged symmetrically throughout the composition, creating the appearance of an enclosed Persian garden.
The colour palette is especially attractive, combining deep navy, royal blue, turquoise, pale blue, ivory, soft pink, burgundy, muted green, warm beige and touches of gold. A broad dark navy floral border frames the design and gives excellent definition to the warmer red field.
Hand knotted from fine wool, the carpet has a detailed city weave and displays the skilled drawing associated with traditional Mashad weaving. It is also signed, adding further character and interest.
The carpet is in good antique condition, retaining a good pile with only very slight wear. Please note that it has a few old, well-executed repairs consistent with its age and history.
It has been professionally hand washed and is clean, fresh and ready for immediate use or display.
