This rug has a central medallion design with an all-over Herati (Mahi / fish) pattern, which is very typical for fine rugs from Tabriz.
The field is densely filled with small repeating floral motifs forming the classic Herati pattern, where a small rosette sits inside a diamond surrounded by delicate leaves.
The large diamond-shaped medallion in the centre is connected with elegant pendants, and the corners (spandrels) repeat the same Herati design for symmetry. The rug is framed by a decorative floral border with palmettes and vine scrolls, a common feature of traditional Tabriz carpets.
The carpet features a rich and warm traditional Persian palette, including:
- Deep burgundy / dark red field
- Ivory and beige Herati pattern
- Rust and terracotta central medallion
- Navy blue and ivory floral border
- Small silk highlights giving brightness and contrast
These colours are typical in high-quality Tabriz rugs and help highlight the detailed knotting and design.
