This attractive vintage handmade Persian Mahal rug is a finely woven city-style piece dating from approximately 40–50 years ago. It features an elegant central medallion surrounded by a richly detailed arrangement of scrolling vines, palmettes, blossoms and traditional floral motifs.

Measuring 205 × 130 cm (approximately 6 ft 9 in × 4 ft 3 in), it is a versatile medium-sized rug suitable for a living room, bedroom, dining area, study, entrance hall or beneath a coffee table.

The rug has a warm brick-red and deep ruby field, centred by an ivory medallion with soft pink, muted green and red detailing. The densely decorated field includes shades of coral, blush pink, sage green, olive, pale blue, warm beige and dark brown. Cream corner sections and a deep navy floral border provide contrast and give the composition a beautifully balanced appearance.

Hand knotted from very fine wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug has excellent decorative detail and a durable construction suitable for regular household use. Its harmonious old colours and finely drawn floral pattern give it warmth, character and timeless appeal.
