This attractive old handmade Tabriz rug is a finely woven city rug dating from approximately 30–40 years ago. It features a traditional central medallion surrounded by an elaborate arrangement of flowering vines, palmettes and scrolling floral motifs.

Measuring 210 × 140 cm (approximately 6 ft 11 in × 4 ft 7 in), it is a versatile medium-sized rug suitable for a living room, bedroom, dining area, study, entrance hall or beneath a coffee table.

The rug has a rich ruby-red and raspberry field centred by a deep navy floral medallion with ivory, green and soft pink detailing. Further accents of turquoise, pale blue, olive green, warm beige, coral and burgundy add depth and character. Cream corner sections brighten the composition, while the dark navy floral border provides strong definition.

Hand knotted from very fine wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug has detailed drawing, a finely balanced composition and durable construction suitable for regular household use.
