This exceptional antique handmade Persian Tabriz carpet, dating from circa 1940, is a finely woven city masterpiece displaying the elegance and craftsmanship for which Tabriz is renowned. It features a magnificent classical central medallion surrounded by an intricate arrangement of scrolling vines, palmettes and delicate floral motifs, all executed with remarkable precision.

Measuring 385 × 285 cm (approximately 12 ft 8 in × 9 ft 4 in), this impressive room-size carpet is ideally suited to a large living room, dining room, reception room, drawing room or formal sitting area.

The carpet has a rich deep navy blue field centred by an elaborate multi-layered medallion in ruby red, ivory, soft blue and warm gold. Finely detailed floral sprays and arabesques spread gracefully across the field, while beautifully decorated ivory and terracotta corner spandrels create perfect balance. A magnificent navy floral border, complemented by finely woven ivory guard borders, frames the composition and enhances its classical appearance.

Hand knotted from very fine lamb’s wool in natural dyes on a strong cotton foundation, the carpet has an exceptionally fine city weave and outstanding clarity of design. The border is signed with the name of the workshop, “Behnam Basri,” adding further authenticity and collectable appeal.

The carpet has been professionally hand washed and is clean, fresh and ready for immediate use or display.
