This attractive vintage handmade Persian Mahal rug dates from approximately 30–40 years ago and features a beautifully balanced traditional Boteh design. The finely repeated motifs cover the warm field in an orderly all-over arrangement, centred by a bold geometric medallion that gives the rug a strong and distinctive character.

Measuring 200 × 125 cm (approximately 6 ft 7 in × 4 ft 1 in), the rug is ideally proportioned for a living room, study, bedroom, entrance hall, home office or beneath a coffee table.

The main field has a warm coral-red and muted terracotta ground, decorated with small Boteh motifs in dark brown, ivory and soft blue-grey. A striking ivory border contains a repeated pattern of stylised animals, birds and geometric elements, giving the rug an especially decorative and individual appearance. Accents of black, brick red, olive green, golden ochre and soft pink add further richness and detail.

Hand knotted from fine lamb’s wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug combines a comfortable handle with the durability required for regular household use. Its warm colours and carefully organised pattern make it an excellent furnishing piece for both traditional and more contemporary interiors.
