This distinctive vintage handmade Persian Joshaghan rug is a traditional village weaving dating from approximately 60–70 years ago. Joshaghan rugs are relatively scarce, and this attractive example features the region’s characteristic geometric shrub design, arranged with excellent balance and an abundance of small decorative motifs.

Measuring 195 × 125 cm (approximately 6 ft 5 in × 4 ft 1 in), it is a versatile size for a living room, bedroom, study, entrance hall, dining area or beneath a coffee table.

The rug has a warm coral-red field centred by a finely drawn diamond-shaped medallion in deep navy, ivory, red and soft blue. The surrounding field is richly decorated with stylised shrubs, flowering trees, geometric rosettes, small birds and diamond motifs. Accents of turquoise blue, mustard yellow, olive green, soft grey, ivory and dark brown add depth and lively visual interest.

A narrow ivory border decorated with repeating red and green floral forms frames the design neatly without overpowering the colourful field. The combination of strong geometry and charming village motifs gives the rug considerable character.

Hand knotted from fine lamb’s wool on a strong cotton foundation, the rug has a durable construction suitable for regular household use. It remains in good vintage condition with an evenly low pile, consistent with its age and authentic character.
